2016 50c Coloured Big Coins: Coat of Arms – Pure Silver Coin Royal Canadian Mint. This large five ounce pure silver 2016 half dollar Big Coin features selective colour which brings the intricate coat-of-arms design to life in a way never seen before. With a mintage of just 1,500 coins for one of Canada’s premier quality annual proof coins, this is an extremely limited issue with demand significantly greater than the quantity produced. As a pure silver coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, there is no HST or GST applicable on this item. First introduced in 1937 and updated several times, the design features Canada’s official coat-of-arms. The Design: While a regular fifty cent coin has a diameter of 27 mm and a weight of just 6.9 grams in base metal, this half dollar has a diameter of 65 mm and has a weight of over 155 grams, or 5 ounces, in pure silver. This is about equal the weight of 23 regular half dollars. The coin is double struck to ensure fine detail and a near flawless surface, while the design is further enhanced with selective colour. 2016 $2 Coloured Big Coin Series Polar Bear Pure Silver Coin
Have the case and COA but no box! This huge low mintage 2016 pure silver two dollar coin is the final coin in the 2016 “Big Coins” pure silver proof set. In addition to being spectacular looking coins, the coins in this series now form the top quality coin set in Canada, and individually represent the highest quality coin for each denomination. The reverse design features Brent Townsend’s image of an adult polar bear standing on an ice floe, gazing out over the early summer Arctic landscape. The polar bear and ice floe are gold-plated, as is the raised edge. The reverse is also engraved with the word “CANADA”, the date “2015”, and the face value of “2 DOLLARS”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The coin is double struck to ensure fine detail and a near flawless surface, while the design is further enhanced with selective colour highlighting the coin’s main design. The mintage of this coin and others in the Big Coins series is extremely low, with only 1,500 coins of each design being produced.
