The Design: While a regular fifty cent coin has a diameter of 27 mm and a weight of just 6.9 grams in base metal, this half dollar has a diameter of 65 mm and has a weight of over 155 grams, or 5 ounces, in pure silver. This is about equal the weight of 23 regular half dollars. The coin is double struck to ensure fine detail and a near flawless surface, while the design is further enhanced with selective colour.
